If you’re in (or a supporter of) the LGBTQ+ community, hanging a Pride flag is a great way to show your true self or provide support. And did you know that there are different types of Pride flags out there? While the rainbow flag is the most iconic, there are other types of Pride flags you can purchase. We’ll dive into all of this and more in this article to help you prepare for this special month!

Where to Get Pride Flags

A Pride flag is an excellent way to show your support and acceptance for others. Here’s where to get Pride flags!

The rainbow flag is the most recognizable flag you’ll see during Pride. It was designed in 1978 by Gilbert Baker, an American artist and activist. It features six different colors – each one representing a unique feature of diversity.

  • Red: Life
  • Orange: Healing
  • Yellow: Sunlight
  • Green: Nature
  • Blue: Harmony
  • Purple: Spirit

When shopping for Pride flags, the rainbow flag is likely to be the one you’ll find in most stores. As the universal symbol for all genders and sexual identities, this flag will definitely show your support for the LGBTQ+ community!

Gay men have adopted this flag as their official Pride symbol. However, you’ll see many types of people holding the rainbow flag during Pride since the word “gay” has also become shorthand for anyone who falls into a non-heterosexual identity.

You can find rainbow flags at stores like Home Depot.

Transgender Flag

Created in 1999, the transgender Pride flag stands for those who identify as a gender other than the one that is commonly associated with their biological sex. Often, these people will transition from living as one gender to living as the other. The flag can also be used to represent people who do not identify with any gender.

The flag has baby pink and blue stripes (which are the colors often associated with boys and girls). However, the white stripe in the middle stands for people who are non-binary, genderqueer, or undefined genders. As such, everyone gets representation in this flag!

Etsy

As an online platform, Etsy serves as a great marketplace for small creators who belong to the LGBTQ+ community. So, if you’re looking to support queer small business owners this Pride month, get your flags from Etsy!

Bisexual Flag

Other than the rainbow flag, the bisexual flag features some of the most recognizable colors at Pride. Bisexual people experience attraction to more than one gender. While most bisexual people would say they’re attracted to men and women, they’re also often attracted to non-binary people as well.

The bisexual flag contains 3 colors: pink and blue, with purple in between. The pink stands for same-sex attraction, the blue for opposite-sex attraction, and the purple for both.

The rainbow flag and the term LGBTQ+ are generally used to represent all the different diverse sexualities and genders. But since the community is constantly evolving, the flag has undergone various redesigns to incorporate these changes.

The first progress Pride flag was designed in 2018 by Daniel Quaser. It combined the rainbow flag and the transgender Pride flag into one. Various adaptations have taken place since then, with the newest version (the new progress flag) incorporating the intersex flag. This version designed by Valentino Vecchietti has a yellow triangle with a purple circle in the middle.

Show your unwavering support for everyone in the LGBTQ+ community with this hand-sewn New Progress Pride Flag. With vibrant colors and soft nylon material, this flag will proudly display Valentino Vecchietti’s redesign with Pride and glory!

You can also find many other Pride flags in this queer-run shop including Gay Men’s, Demisexual, Bigender, and Bisexual.

Lesbian Flag

The lesbian flag represents women who love other women. It also has a lot of colors and holds a lot of meaning. Let’s break it down:

  • Dark orange symbolizes gender non-conformity. Not conforming to commonly-held expectations of womanhood doesn’t look the same for all lesbians and can take a wide variety of forms. For example, some women reject traditional feminine appearances altogether and adopt a more butch sense of style. Other lesbians have a more feminine style but still eschew relationships with men.
  • Light orange represents community, which lesbians often create for themselves once they’re out of the closet.
  • White symbolizes unique relationships to the idea of being a woman.
  • Pink brings reminders of serenity and peace.
  • Dusty pink stands for love.
  • Dark pink represents feminity.

While these flags are the most common, they are way more to encompass everyone in the community. Here are a couple of other flags you may see during Pride:

  • Intersex Flag
  • Drag Feather Pride Flag
  • Bigender Pride Flag
  • Genderflux Pride Flag
  • Demisexual Pride Flag
  • Nonbinary Flag
  • Asexual Flag
  • Pansexual Flag
  • Abrosexual Flag

Although Pride month runs through all of June, there’s no harm in keeping the flag up for the whole year. Diversity is something we should be celebrating every day, as the struggle for equality is ongoing. By showing your support year-round, you can inspire positive change to make this world a more respectful and understanding place!
