As any parent knows, the transition from babyhood to childhood is a big one for our kids! They begin to develop strength, balance, and flexibility – all important things for a continued healthy lifestyle. Toddler yoga is a great way for kids to discover and learn about all those aspects, see for yourself in the video below.

What’s more, it gives parents even more opportunities to interact and play with their kids. Getting children interested in yoga can be a bit of a challenge, but as long as you make it fun they’ll be willing to try. Making it a contest to see who can hold the pose longest or encouraging them to tell a story about each pose will keep them interested and willing to try more!

If you are looking to learn more yoga poses, go on over to Yoga Class Plan, they have amazing yoga classes you can follow or create yourself right from your home. Yoga Class Plan offers 400 pose illustrations and access over 6000 shared class plans! Oh and they even have a free 14-day trial, so there is not risk in trying them out!

Yoga for Ultimate Relationship Bonding

Recently, my daughter and I started exploring the benefits of toddler yoga. We’re both loving it – me, because I get a gentle workout and get to make some new mommy friends, and my daughter because she loves making the poses (although getting her to hold them can sometimes be a challenge!).

I recently made a video of my daughter practicing her yoga poses. Some poses took way longer than others and we had to stop filming because of some giggle fits, but we got it done!

Honestly, it was fun just watching her antics!

I wanted to share the video with other parents not only because toddler yoga can be a great bonding experience, but because yoga poses are beneficial (particularly for growing girls and boys!). I’ve made a list of all the toddler yoga poses we included in the video along with their benefits for anyone who’s interested in learning more.

Also if you’re looking for any type of yoga gear, weather its for you, or your child, you can check out places like Gaiam (for more advanced yoggie gear), Fabletics (mostly for amazingly comfortable clothes) or even FabKids (for super cute kids yoga outfits)!!

9 Poses and Benefits of Toddler Yoga

  • Candle Pose

This pose helps kids develop upper body strength, especially in the neck, shoulders, and back. It also benefits the nervous system and improves the immune system.

  • Cat Pose

As well as increasing spine, neck, and shoulder flexibility, the cat pose stretches out the back, hip, and abdomen muscles. This pose encourages creativity and focus, both things that kids need in abundance!

  • Child’s Pose

My daughter’s favorite, this pose increases the body’s circulation. It also helps kids develop steady, strong breathing and stretches the muscles in the hips and thighs.

  • Cobra Pose

This exercise strengthens the muscles in the arms, shoulders, and upper back. It encourages better blood circulation and can alleviate the severity of asthma.

  • Downward Facing Dog Pose

A great pose for strengthening a few parts of the body at once, including hamstrings, calves, hips, lower back, wrists, and hands. It encourages deeper, slower breathing and can help kids achieve a state of calmness.

  • Extended Cat Pose

This pose improves the sense of balance as well as toning the core muscles. It can also increase lung capacity and energy levels.

  • Namaste

Also known as the Salutation Seal or Anjali Mudra, this pose helps reduce anxiety and stress while calming the mind. It strengthens the fingers, wrists, hands, and elbows.

  • Plank Pose

The plank pose strengthens the muscles in the abdomen and at the same time, improves the flexibility of the shoulders, feet, and ankles. This pose is also a mood booster, removing tension and stiffness.

  • Tree Pose

While being one of the best yoga exercises for improving balance, the tree pose also builds muscle in the ankles, calves, and thighs. It also helps kids achieve a sense of peacefulness, improving their focus and their moods.

Mommy Daughter Yoga Fun

I’m always on the lookout for healthy, enjoyable activities that my daughter and I can do together. Yoga is one of the best activities I’ve found so far. It gives me an opportunity to relax and get a little exercise, and it gives her a chance to burn off a little of her (never-ending) energy! The best part is that it’s helping us both develop balance, flexibility, and strength in a fun way.

We also couldn’t have done any of these fun poses without our favorite yogi clothes from Fabletics and FabKids! I know my daughter sure loves all the flexible and everlasting clothes from FabKids! And I don’t blame her! If I could wear yoga clothes all day every day, I would! So go on an give Fabletics and Fabkids a shot! You will want to wear their clothes everyday just like we do!
