Ingredients for Party Favors:
- ½ cup of lemon zest
- ¼ cup of orange zest
- 2 vanilla beans
- Unflavored vodka of your choice
You will also need vessels for holding the extracts. We recommend using separate ones for the infusion and others for bottling and gifting (like these from Etsy).
Homemade Extract Instructions:
- Add your flavor ingredients to a canning jar or whatever you’re using to extract the flavor. For example, put ½ cup of lemon zest into the jar if you want lemon-flavored vodka. Use a separate jar for the orange flavor and another jar for the vanilla beans.
- Now, you’ll need to add the vodka to the jar. For a 16-ounce container, pour in 8 ounces of vodka.
- Seal the jar and let the ingredients sit together and infuse. After one week, taste the vodka to see if it has enough flavor. If it’s not strong enough, you can let it sit for a few more days.
- After your extract is exactly as you want it, remove the citrus peels or vanilla bean.
- Now, you can package them for friends and family. Use a funnel from Target to pour the liquor into your mini bottles.

If the bottle has been opened, it should be finished within a few months. Just make sure to remove the peels or beans before sealing and storing the vodka. Leaving the fruit in there can cause the flavor to go bitter or even rotten after a certain amount of time.
