There’s no arguing just how important it is to give your children happy, fun memories while they’re still young. In order to give my daughter the best childhood memories I can, I’ve started planning out mother-daughter dates for us both.
Some are silly and some are sentimental, but they’ve all made us happy. If you’re looking for a way to make a great daughter date, we put together a helpful list of ideas and activities below.
A Fancy Night Out For the Girls
Most little girls love nothing more to play dress up, and what’s better than being able to dress up and head out for a delicious meal? Book a reservation at a nice restaurant for just the two of you and then proceed to get dolled up in your finest threads.
You’ll both be able to bond over fancy food (or not so fancy food if your little girl’s a picky eater like mine!) and won’t have to worry about any boys interrupting.
Learn How to Paint Together
If your daughter’s full of creativity and the desire to learn, why not attend a parent-child watercolor art class for your daughter date? Plenty of public learning centers, libraries, and schools offer classes like these, so it shouldn’t be hard to find one.
Watercolors are a great medium for kids to work with because they’re water soluble and easy to clean up. The best part is that after the class is over, you’ll be able to take both your masterpieces home and put them on display! You can also paint at home as well! Have you ever tried Salt Painting? Spend a Day Baking Delicious Treats
Nothing encourages mother-daughter bonding like a day spent baking. Let your daughter pick some of her favorite goodies and then get to work making them. It’ll be even more fun for her if you make something that involves icing, sprinkles, or sparkles (or all three!), even though it might be a bit messy!
Together you can whip up some cookies, cakes, squares, or brownies to share with your family (or keep to yourselves).
And if you are a big-time cookie lover then you definitely should try Color My Cookie for a mouth-watering sweetness experience. Add these to your baking day for an afternoon full of sweetness.
Get a Mother-Daughter Manicure and Pedicure
Everyone likes to be pampered, especially little girls, so why not make your daughter date a day at the salon? You can each pick out your favorite nail polish colors and decals and then sit back, relax, and enjoy a couple hours of pampering.
Once you’re done, let her choose one or two bottles of nail polish to take home so that you can do your nails together next time. You can also purchase the non-toxic nail polish for kids.
Splurge on a Girl’s Only Shopping Trip
If your daughter’s a burgeoning fashionista like mine is, take her out for a fun day of shopping. You can visit different stores to find hats, dresses, shoes, and jewelry.
Let her try on anything she takes a liking to so she can give you a fashion show in the dressing rooms. At the end of the day she’ll have some new clothes and accessories and a wonderful memory of shopping with mom.
Spend Some Time Outdoors With a Hike and a Picnic
Now that it’s summertime and nice days abound, schedule an outdoorsy daughter date. Plan out a picnic lunch and make it together before heading out to a nearby park with hiking trails. Spend some time walking, talking, and taking in the sights.
When you both get hungry, find a nice spot, unpack your food, and eat lunch while you enjoy the nice weather. This is a great way for both you and her to get some exercise while spending great mother-daughter quality time.
Learn New and Interesting Things at a Museum
Most museums offer kid-friendly exhibits on a regular basis, which makes them a perfect place for a mother-daughter date.
You can learn new things together and, if the exhibits have interactive displays, try your hand at some basic science tricks. On your way out, don’t forget to stop at the gift shop to get some cute souvenirs to remind you of your enjoyable day.
Visit an Ice Cream Parlor for Tasty Treats
Going for ice cream might not sound like much of a date, but it can be just as fun as doing anything else.
Find an ice cream parlor that has more than your garden variety types of flavors so your little girl can taste some birthday cake, lemonade, or honey ice cream (my daughter tried the buttered popcorn flavor and loved it!). You can sit together, talk, and just spend time bonding while you both enjoy your treats.
Involve her in your activities
You love to do yoga, meditation, gardening or dancing. Why not involve your little one? She might discover a new passion and she will feel treated more like an equal. Plus Toddler Yoga is becoming a thing now. Check this video out.
Making Precious Memories With Your Little Girl
Kids grow up way too fast, so it’s important to cherish the time you get with them when they’re young. I’ve found that going on dates with my daughter gives us the one on one time we don’t get when we’re at home.
What’s more, it’s creating memories of our time together that she’ll be able to remember for years to come.
