How to Make a Pop-Out Heart Card for Valentine’s Day
If you don’t know how to make a popup heart card – don’t worry! Our step-by-step instructions and follow-along video will show you exactly what to do. Read on to learn how to make a popup card for Valentine’s Day!
Materials:
- White and color craft paper (red, pink)
- Scissors
- Glue
- A Pencil
- Some Glitter
- Colored craft markers
- Ruler
Instructions How to Make the Inside of Popup Card:
- There are three parts when learning how to make a popup card. We’re starting with the 3D insert that pops open when you open the card. Take one sheet of white paper and fold it in half in the shape of a card.
- On the spine of the folded part, mark 2cm from both sides with a pencil. Use your ruler to help measure.
- Now, turn the paper vertically and draw a line 3.5cm from the spine of the fold on the top and bottom sides of the paper.
- Using your scissors, cut the two lines you just marked.
- You should now have a “center” part in between the two lines you just cut. Fold that small section upwards, making a pleat.
- Turn the paper over and fold the pleat on this side.
- Now, open the card and fold the pleat inside. Close the card.
- Starting from the pleat cut, mark another 2cm from both sides with a pencil.
- Draw a 2.5cm line from each mark.
- Once again, cut the lines to make a second and third pleat. These creases will be smaller than the first pleat you cut.
- Fold each pleat on both sides (just like in steps 5 and 6).
- Then open the card and fold both pleats inside (similar to step 7).
- By now, you should have three pleats. You’re on your way to knowing how to make a popup heart card!
How to Make the Card Cover
- Let’s move on to making the cover card. First, fold a sheet of red paper and another white piece of paper in half.
- Glue the white card inside the red cover card. Press along the edges to make sure everything is glued evenly.
- Now, place the glue on the outside of both sides of the 3D sheet of paper we just created. Don’t get any glue on the pleats!
- Press the glued 3D sheet of paper into the cover card with the white sheet of paper. You should now have one card with a red cover and your 3D cuts on the inside.
Decorating the Card
- After the card has been created, it’s time to decorate! In this tutorial, we will be cutting out different-sized hearts from the remaining white, pink, and red construction paper, although you should feel free to cut out other shapes, letters, and designs of your choosing. Check out the end of the video to see a few different examples of card designs.
- Make your hearts extra fancy by layering them in different colors or by adding some glitter!
- Glue the hearts to the cover of the card as well as to the pleats on the inside. Make sure to leave some blank space on the flat parts so you can write your Valentine’s Day message.
- Using your craft markers, write a note to your loved one.
- That’s it! You now know how to make a pop-out heart card!
