Rough winter weather can leave your nails brittle and weak, which is why you need a DIY nail growth serum. It adds just the right amount of hydration that your nails crave. Nail serums work to repair and restore your nails, making them stronger, longer, and healthier!
DIY Nail Growth Serum for Stronger Nails
For this tutorial, we will start by giving your hands a soothing bath made from fresh lemon and dried lavender. Then, we’ll concoct our own tincture of lavender, lemon, almond, and jojoba oils. Essential oils add moisture and promote nail growth. Plus, it’s super easy to make and only takes a few minutes to mix! So say goodbye to brittle nails and hello to healthy fingers all year round!
Materials you’ll need:Â
- A bowl
- Warm water
- Hand Towels
- A Lemon (sliced in half)
- Dried lavender flowers
- 1 Dropper Bottle
- Kitchen Funnel
- 6 drops of Lavender essential oil
- 6 drops of Lemon essential oil
- Stickers
- A marker
- 1 ½ tsp Jojoba oil
- 2 tsp Almond Oil
Instructions for DIY Nail Growth Serum:
- Before we make our DIY nail growth serum, we will make a relaxing hand bath to soften and soothe our fingers. Start by pouring the warm water into a bowl.
- Squeeze half of a lemon into the water and add the dried lavender flowers.
- Soak the tips of your fingers into the bowl for 5 to 7 minutes.
- After the soak, dry your fingers on a hand towel and remove any excess lavender flowers.
- Now we can make our homemade nail serum! First, write down the serum name on a sticker. This will be used for labeling the dropper bottle.
- Place the kitchen funnel into the opening of the dropper bottle.
- Add six drops each of essential lavender and lemon oils into the bottle. The more drops you add, the more aromatic your homemade nail serum will be.
* Lavender oil has a calming effect that can also soothe inflamed cuticles. It can also strengthen and protect weak and brittle nails. Lemon oil adds a citrusy scent that also promotes strength and growth. *
- Add 1 ½ tsp of jojoba oil to the mix.
*Jojoba oil from Target is a nail hydration booster. The fatty acids penetrate deep inside each layer of your nail, adding collagen and moisture. Not only does this improve nail strength, but it also makes your cuticles and nail beds extra soft. *
- Finish with 2 tsp of almond oil.
*Almond oil is loaded with healthy vitamins and antioxidants like vitamin E, magnesium, copper, and phosphorus. It’s also immunity-boosting and anti-inflammatory, leaving your nails stronger than ever. *
Nail Serum ApplicationÂ
- Once all the oils are added to the dropper, remove the funnel and close the lid. Give the bottle a little shake to make sure all the ingredients are mixed together.
- By now, your cleans are clean, soft, and prepped for the oil. With the bottle dropper, add one drop of your tincture on top of each nail. Use your other finger to gently massage the oil around the nail, cuticle, and surrounding skin.
- Let the oil absorb into your nail and skin for a few minutes. Any excess oil you have can be massaged or rubbed on your hands for extra moisture! We recommend using your serum every day. Consistent application will improve strength and promote growth
Extra Nail Tips
- After you moisturize your hands at night, slip on a pair of cotton gloves. This will allow your hands to absorb as much moisture as possible (without it rubbing off on your sheets).
- Make sure to apply moisturizer after you wash your hands. We recommend placing a bottle next to the sink, so you don’t forget!
- Push back your cuticles instead of cutting them. Cut cuticles have a higher risk of infection and ingrown nails.
- If you have artificial nails, take extra sanitary precautions. Artificial nails can encourage fungal growth. Keeping your nails clean and natural is the best way to avoid possible infections.
- And remember – stay hydrated! Drinking water throughout the day is important for your nails and for your overall health!
