Social media. Gossip blogs. News—“fake” or not. Draining co-workers. Unpaid bills. Toxic people—family, friends, etc. GOODNESS. If there’s one thing that all of us have to battle with, practically on a daily basis, it’s negativity. And you know what? If you’re not careful—and by that, we mean intentional—about safeguarding your thoughts, energy and relationships, negativity can take a real toll on your health and well-being. In those moments, just remember to stay positive!

It doesn’t make logical sense to talk about avoiding negativity without providing some practical tips, so we’ve provided 10 of them. Look at these as a “positivity checklist” that you can apply on a daily basis.

Something tells us that if you truly take these suggestions to heart, you’ll feel better about yourself, your life and those around you—and that’s positivity at its best!

Meditate for 10 minutes.

I recently read an article that said stress leads to a lack of productivity at work. Stress typically starts when we oversleep or find ourselves rushing in the morning. That said, do yourself a world of good by setting your alarm clock to go off 10-15 minutes earlier. Then get out of bed, sit on the floor and take deep breathes for a few minutes. It will relax and center you enough to keep your cortisol levels in check so that you can be cool, calm and collected throughout your day.

Wear your favorite color.

Question—what’s your favorite color? Next question—when’s the last time you Googled a color psychology chart? While red means love and passion, yellow means happiness and intellect. While green means growth and harmony, purple means ambition and power. On the days when you know that you’re feeling low, it can be an immediate pick-me-up to put on your favorite color. It will make you feel beautiful and, what it represents, can remind you to stay in that kind of headspace from sunrise until sunset. If your’e just not into colorful clothes, simply wearing something you love to wear can have a huge impact on your daily mood.

Eat a favorite food (in the morning).

Speaking of favorites, mama was right when she said that breakfast is the most important meal of the day! Give your body the fuel it needs by having something you really love whether it’s freshly-squeezed orange juice, a spinach omelet or a bowl of berries.

Listen to “happy” music.

There’s no doubt about it. Music affects your mood. So, if you listen to depressing love songs on your way into work, don’t be surprised if you find yourself crying over a work brief. Just sayin’.

Eat your lunch outside.

Fresh air. Vitamin D. Sunshine. All of these things are good for your mind, body and spirit. Besides, sitting for hours indoors can wreak havoc on your health if you don’t move around a bit to get away from indoor air pollution. Do yourself a favor by taking your lunch outdoors. Another bonus of doing that? The change of scenery and a little time away from electronics will also do you some good.

Scale back on your online time.

For most of us, it’s unrealistic to go days without any online action. But whether it’s social media or your favorite website, try not to spend more than a couple of hours a day (at the most) on your laptop (other than when you’re working, of course). Not only can the constant intake of information drain your energy levels, it can keep you from checking things off of your to-do list too. Going to bed with a preoccupied mind is another way that negativity is able to creep in.

Write five things you’re thankful for.

Unfortunately, some people are always negative because negative things are all that they think about. You can avoid being that kind of person by investing in a [easyazon_link identifier=”1976436184″ locale=”US” tag=”twkmobile-20″]gratitude journal[/easyazon_link] and jotting down five things you’re thankful for. Don’t only do it on your birthday or when you get some really great news. Try and make it a daily practice. Then watch how good it makes you feel!

Celebrate a met goal (daily).

Speaking of receiving good news, don’t wait until you accomplish something “huge” before you celebrate just how awesome you are. Whether it’s the fact that you got to work on time, you finished that time-sensitive report, you and your kids had a relatively drama-free day or you had a great conversation with your mother-in-law on the phone, CELEBRATE THAT!

It could be by drinking a glass of wine, having a bubble bath or treating yourself to a latte. Celebrations don’t always have to be over-the-top. It’s simply about acknowledging some good that you’ve done. And if you really think about it, you’ve done some good today.

Tell someone what you love about them.

One of the main challenges with committed couples is when they both feel taken for granted because neither is expressive about their feelings. Keeping this in mind, something that no one can get tired of hearing is a heartfelt “I love you”. When you say it, it makes others feel appreciated and valued. As a bonus, you’ll probably hear those three words back in return. It’s what we call “positivity reciprocity”.

Relax. Relate. Release.

Just like you started the day in a meditative state, try and end it that way too. Have a cup of [easyazon_link identifier=”B0009F3PM6″ locale=”US” tag=”twkmobile-20″]chamomile tea[/easyazon_link] or a glass of lemon water. Put a little [easyazon_link identifier=”B075817VBP” locale=”US” tag=”twkmobile-20″]lavender oil[/easyazon_link] on your pillow. Go to bed at a schedule time. TURN OFF YOUR CELL PHONE (and yes, we are yelling that). Read instead of watching television.

All of these things will put you in a peaceful state so that you can get a good night’s rest…so that you can wake up refreshed and ready to live a life of positiveness—all over again!

Positivity is the key to having a good day every day, so stay positive and enjoy all that life has to offer!
