Instructions for Red Velvet Cake Balls:

  1. Preheat the oven to 365°F.
  2. Now, start by making the cake according to the package. For most cake mixes, this will mean adding eggs to the dry mix.
  3. Add the melted butter and stir until everything is mixed together and you have a thick batter.
  4. Pour the cake into your pan and pop it in the oven. The cake should bake for approximately 25 minutes, although this will vary depending on your particular oven.
  5. Once the cake is cooked, take it out and let it cool completely.
  6. Then, toss the cake into a bowl and use a fork (or your hands) to break the cake into fine crumbs. We want a consistent, soft texture, so feel free to toss the crust or bottom if it’s too hard.
  7. Now, toss in the cream cheese and mix it with the cake crumbs. You want to make sure everything is coated and that all parts of the cake are combined with the cream cheese.
  8. It’s time to start molding our Valentine’s Day treats! Roll the mixture into small-sized balls with your hands. They should be roughly one tablespoon in size.
  9. Place the balls on a baking paper-lined tray.
  10. Once the balls have been formed, you’ll need to place them in the fridge to cool and solidify a bit more.
  11. In the meantime, we’ll start preparing the chocolate coating. Take the white chocolate and melt it in a small bowl in the microwave.

Adding the Chocolate

  1. Take out the cake balls from the fridge. Take your fork and spear it through one ball.
  2. Dip it into the melted chocolate, making sure it’s evenly coated all the way around. Place the coated cake ball back on the baking sheet and repeat with all the remaining cake balls.
  3. Before the chocolate hardens, you’ll want to decorate the balls with your sprinkles.
  4. After all the cake balls have been coated and decorated, they’ll need to go through one more round of chilling. Place the tray back into the fridge and let them cool for 15 minutes.
  5. How easy was that! Now you have adorable (and delicious) Valentine’s Day treats that you can give to your loved ones. Package them in a goody bag, wrap them in a chocolate box, or simply serve them as a dessert! Plush, we won’t tell if you eat a few for yourself!
